Much confusion has existed over the story Jesus told of the rich man who in his pride thought he would go to heaven yet ended up in burning hell, while Lazarus, the man he neglected and looked down upon, went to Abraham's bosom.

Why did Jesus tell this story?
Was He trying to teach that it was really ok to talk with dead people?
Was it to confuse us as to what happens at death and seemingly contradict His other teachings that the judgment of the tares, the separation of the righteous and the wicked, and the "weeping and gnashing of teeth" in hell will come at the end of the age?

Pastor Stephen Bohr deals with this parable point by point and presents the fact that even when Jesus raised a real life Lazarus from the dead the Pharisees still would not believe in Him.

  • Amazing! This is the most powerful video expose on the Rich Man and Lazarus ever created!

Nirky, is there by chance you might be able to upload the rest in the series on the State of the Deady by Pastor Bohr? In other words, the whole series on "Missunderstood Texts" on the state of the dead?

  • As of now I only own two Pastor Bohr series, this one and "Paul's Dilemma: To Stay or Go". Stay or Go is being uploaded now. God bless!

  • Hurray!!! Pastor Bohr I have a great respect for you the way you teach; may the Holy Spirit be your guidance and your teaching and continues to feel you with the knowledge and wisdom; because we need a pastor like you to help the foolish world to understand the word of God.

  • I think you are confused the word of god with world's knowledge. We don't need to go to college to understand the word of God we do need the holy Spirit to guide us; most of the people who went to college or universities are ignorant and fool. they don't have any knowledge of the Word of God. If you are a student of the bible you only need the Spirit of God to guide you. Peter was a fisherman not a Scribe but God used him to show the world the knowledge come from God not from the world.

  • In this story the rich man talked to Abraham , which we know is a real person. The rich man was talking to him, he said father Abraham. If most people read your drivers manual the way you read you Bible you couldn't even pass your drivers test. If you don't believe me go to college and skip all over your text book and try to make a point with you instructor and see what happens. The lord Jesus didn't need to use one of their made up stories to make his point

  • @rkg62976

Thanks for sharing rkg.... excellent source from John Gill! :)

  • "...the general design of the PARABLE, is to expose the wickedness and unbelief of the Jews, and to show their danger and misery, for their contempt and rejection of the Messiah; and PARTICULARLY THE PHARISEES ARE DESIGNED, who being covetous, had derided Christ for what he had before said; and, who though high in the esteem of men, were an abomination to God...' [John Gill (d.1771), Exposition on the Whole Bible, Lk.16:19].

*Dr. Gill clearly knew the proper context of this parable ;)

  • I suggest L. Ray Smiths article on the Scriptural explanation of the Parable of Lazarus and the Rich man at Bible-Truths dot-com.

  • a parable is a made up story used to teach a lesson

  • the best yet
