No, it doesn't because Sunday is considered the last day of the week. Actually, if I say the days of the week in English, I'd start with Sunday. But I'd start with Monday in Chinese because it seems more logical to do it that way.

Anyway, if we do it the Chinese way, the days go:

星期 + 1 = Monday (Sīngkèihyāt)

星期 + 2 = Tuesday (Sīngkèihyih)

and so on

星期 + 6 = Saturday

星期 + "sun" = Sunday (Sīngkèihyaht)

("yaht" means "sun" or "day")

The difference here is between yaht - the h is for the low tone in Yale - and yāt with a high tone. yaht =日 usual character for day ( 天 in Mandarin) and yāt = 一 one

Another word for 星期 is 禮拜 láihbaai = week AND Sunday - so you don't need to add anything. láihbaai week with numbers and 個 go. So 三個 禮拜 3 weeks.

星期日 = 禮拜 Sunday

星期一 = 禮拜一 Monday

星期 and 禮拜 have no real diff. in Canto. 禮拜 was introduced by Western missionaries. 禮拜 is also used in Taiwan Mandarin.
