Businesses around the world have been hit by the global economic downturn and there is little consensus on how best to remedy the situation.

Al Jazeera's Rob McBride reports from Hong Kong, where some businesses are turning to the ancient Chinese practice of feng shui to help see them through the difficult financial times.

  • Sorry, but the chi energy powering the economic collapse will be too much for feng shui to handle.

  • In the times of trouble people easily regress into superstition.

  • Feng Shui is mixed with fortune telling and neotaoism in this report. Feng Shui is something like environmental psychology or planning.

For example, facing your bed to the door is better than beside it, as there is better ventilation, then you'll have more energy for work.

Or another example would be, it is not good to place the clock facing the door as you creates anxiety, leading to the feeling of annoyance. It can be explained logically, like, the "longer ring finger" for instance.

  • feng shui is bullshit.

  • it is a form of atheism cult. But makes more sense than atheism.

  • feng shui is no more ridiculous than Islam and Christianity

in fact, it makes more sense

  • I realize that people are affected by their environment. The science you refer to is environmental psychology

  • i was studying this before, but it doesn't work. I tried this in texas hold-em game. If you want to win it will evolve through philosophy and strategy. I like the philosophy of Feng Shui, but using it to solve problems will not work.

  • feng shui isnt about superstition. There isnt necessarily any belief in spirits, anything supernatural, when dealing with chi.

Its simply a life force that connects all things.

Sure, chi likely isnt real, but the methods of feng shui can still work because they smply built a belief system around the basic idea of aesthetic design.

People really are affected not just by the color and look of their surrounding, but by the layout. Theres even a western science behind such ideas.

  • theres no reason for buddhists not to either. Its acceptable to their belief system and part of the culture.

Still, Shintoism I mentioned because I dont think its in conflict with their beliefs either and I believe japan as a culture is open to feng shui.

I didnt mean to imply that being of either philosophy meant that you must believe in it or that it was tied to those philosophies.
