Presentation for the The International Awards for Liveable Communities: Whistler2020.
In 2001, we began to develop Whistler2020, our comprehensive sustainability plan. This plan is guided by the community's values and TNS sustainability principles. Whistler2020 includes a shared vision of what a resort community will look like in a sustainable future and outlines how the RMOW can achieve this vision through integrated strategies and related actions. Whistler 2020 defines the resort community's vision as:
Whistler will be the premier mountain resort community -- as we move toward sustainability
Whistler2020 has been recognized with two national awards, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities' Sustainable Community Award and the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators' Willis Award for Innovation. We received these awards because of our innovation in employing a comprehensive, integrated approach to planning.
