I personally thought that the book is far better than the film, could not put it down once I started reading it.

But what's atheism got to do with this?

Well some religious people pray for supernatural intervention such as a god getting them out of dire circumstances, but what Atheism means that you don't think help is coming from gods. What Joe is saying is that he wasn't going to wait for the christian god to save him but that he was going to save himself.

Joe Simpson is comfortably the biggest badass since Chuck Norris.

The belief of god should not deter somebody from the preservation of their lives. God gave us life to be meaningful. We should treat it as sacred and also we should respect that gift and seek to defend it.

This movie shows the wildness of the mountains really well. I know them as a skier. What has Joe Simpson's personal drive to live got to do with his atheism? A lot of atheists as well as a lot of Christians would have given up the ghost. Do Joe's balls just make atheists feel better? Personally I know that Jesus is Saviour. Plenty of people believe in the supernatural but refuse to look into Jesus. Why is that?

Because if you believe in supernatural things like god or gods it might mean that you think these supernatural beings will intervene, suspend the laws of nature, and save you.
Atheism means you are alone and you have to rely on yourself, that there's no reason to believe there is an afterlife, so it can motivate you.

This video is validating for me, because so many times I have heard Christians say "oh, when an Atheist is faced with death, they suddenly believe...", like the saying "there's no atheists in foxholes". But personally I've been on the brink of death a few times, & just like Joe's words in this video, the thought of God or praying never occurred to me once. When I've told this to Christians, I don't think they can grasp this concept.

Sounds a little self-righteous. (No offense).
