On Sunday 29th July 2007, Veteran Airborne Soldiers marched through Glasgow from the Cathedral to Glasgow Green via the High Street. This day also marked the 60th Anniversary of the raising of the famous 15 Para Battalion.
The event was organised by the Parachute Regimental Association, PRA Central Scotland Branch.
Marching music was supplied by the Royal Regiment of Scotland Lowland Brass Band, along with Uddingston Strathclyde Pipe Band and Coalburn Silver Band.
This is the third Airborne Forces Scotland event. The intention is to have one every two years. The 2009 event is provisionally being held by the PRA Aberdeen Branch.

  • These folks deserve every bit of attention and gratitude they can get.

I have an uncle, still going strong at eighty nine, who piloted a B-24 Liberator on many missions over Germany. Another, gone now, was an 82nd Airborne captain who went into France on 5 June `44. My late dad was a USMC major in the Pacific.

WWII veterans are dying at a rate of a couple of thousand a day. They should be honored while still around to appreciate it.

Thanks so much for posting this and the others.

  • it's always been called ABF Day...
