Excerpt from a Hungarian animated film by József Gémes, using a striking technique called paint-animation, wherein each frame is an individual painting. The results speak for themselves, a truly beautiful piece of work.
The film tells a story of Miklós Toldi, a peasant who becomes a knight by virtue of his incredible strength and determination.

I just saw this in one of our cinemas, and it was (it is) a masterpiece. Perfect in every aspect.

Are you sure these are individual paintings? I suspect this is a paint on glass animation or something... Background seems separate and too immobile to be painted again for every frame.

@JoonaRuusuvuori I worded it poorly, you're correct. Each frame of the animation is painted onto the previous frame and photographed. I assume on some kind of transparent sheet over the background paintings.
