That thought is nothing new; the dream has always been to use and amplify the weak magnetic field of the earth to "surf" along. It will happen someday, there's no doubt... and it won't have to spin; the spinning here is just to keep it stable.
But anyway, I want one too. :)

The trick isn't spinning it, which involves alot of precision in itself, the trick is getting the f---ing base set up properly!!!

There's a shop near my home selling one. It really doesnt need batteries, you just spin it and it will start levitating and spinning. It stop levitating after a while.
