Dan Savage on Progressing Public Thought on Gay Marriage

On the head-of-state comment - to be fair, the U.S. is the first majority-white nation to freely elect a black head of government. Of course, this talk took place long before the election, but it does go to show that we're not ALWAYS last.

Funny how this man claims they're winning the argument, yet they couldn't even get Prop 8 passed in Cali. So much for winning....

What Dan Savage is talking about here is civil marriage. Prop 8 got passed in large part due to the misinformation campaign launched by the "Yes-on-8" crowd. Some of the lies perpetuated: churches will have to recognize same sex marriage (which would violate the First Amendment); "systemic indoctrination" would be introduced in schools; and churches will lose their tax-exempt status for preaching against same-sex marriages.

Hell, if I believed all that, I'd have voted for prop 8 too.
