Ames's window is a variation of the Ames's room invented by Adelbert Ames Jr. The optical illusion of the bar passing through the window is because the window is not oscillating left-right-left but is rotating. It is a trapezium (trapezoid) and the tallest end always appears nearest. Made out of Meccano apart from the paper covering. If you concentrate it is possible to see the window rotating. In real life it needs to be viewed from about 12ft/4m away.
