Baby pygmy chimpanzee Mali was born at San Diego zoo on September 4. She had a difficult birth and zoo vets were worried she may not pull through - but with care she is growing, eating, and gaining weight.

Actually, I found the answer to my question on my own. The Jane Goodall Institute will not only work to end cruel experimentation on chimps, but also any donation you make will help in conducting research to further our understanding of them. I should have thought about it before, she is totally one of my childhood heros after all. Just google Jane Goodall Institute if you're interested. Way better than PETA!

The tickling was sooo cute, but what really got my maternal instints kicking into high geer was when she put him in his crib, and like a human baby he slept right through the movement.
I want to donate, but NOT to PETA. I want my money to help end chimp experimentation, not to protest against the humain society and the wonderful but emotionally complex work that THEY do. Is there another, less radical organization I could donate to help end cruelty against chimpanzees and other primates?
