FunOrb Is Now Out!!!

I was in a bit of a hurry to get this done. But as you can see here Jagex has been working on some new kind of game. What I think it is, is an expansion to Runescape. You can see 3 mods in World FunOrb. If you have any thoughts to what this is, please post a comment.

UPDATE:
Some Articals About FunOrb
================================
INTERVIEW: From RuneScape to FunOrb

You don't hear too much news out of UK-based publisher/developer Jagex. The studio, whose name is derived from the phrase "Java gaming experts," isn't exactly known for its flashiness in marketing or even in its games.

But the 400-strong Cambridge, UK firm has been one Western company on the cutting edge of the increasingly popular free-to-play MMO model, nonetheless. The browser-based MMORPG RuneScape boasts over 6 million active accounts, including 1 million pay-to-play users, who pay $5 per month.

The "Java experts" now turn their sights towards a new web-based project dubbed FunOrb, a multi-game portal that will combine the studio'* experience with online gaming business models and casual game development. The site's launch is slated for February.

"In a bizarre way, FunOrb is like going back to our roots, which is actually in minigames development," says Mark Faulkner, head of FunOrb game development. "When [Jagex founder] Andrew Gower began producing games, he was producing casual games and minigames. RuneScape happened to be one of those projects that became very popular."

FunOrb will essentially be a collection of browser-based games that Faulkner says are more "in-depth" than most casual games found today. Genres covered in FunOrb's initial lineup of games include tile-based strategy, a Worms/Scorched Earth-like game and an overhead arcade shooter, among others. Some FunOrb games, Faulkner claims, have 15-20 hours worth of gameplay.

"These games will be easy to pick up and play, but if [gamers] do want to invest a lot of time, we want to make sure there's enough gameplay there for them to enjoy," he says.

The "casual" games business is turning out to be a very appealing one, and Faulkner recognizes this. But the impetus to create FunOrb wasn't one that was derived from a business meeting, rather from a few Jagex employees who had shared founder Gower's knack for casual games.

"We had some clever people who were experimenting with games within the company who had come up with a number of excellent games,* explains Faulkner. "We recognized that we had a product that we could monetize, then decided to formulate a strategy to bring these products to market."

FunOrb's strategy involves launching with an initial 18 games within an online environment that includes increasingly standard community features like online multiplayer modes, in-game chat, forums, and even 10-15 Achievements per game. Some games will only be available to paying members, who will be able to sign up for the service for $4 per month, or $3 per month combined with a RuneScape membership. Free members will have access to around 40 play-hours of free content.

All members, whether free or paying, will be subjected to a certain amount of advertising, a choice that more adamant in-game ad opponents would detest, although this practice is common in many areas of the casual online games market.

Faulkner promises that the FunOrb team, which numbers 20-25 developers, will offer a new game every two weeks following the site's launch. All of the games will be developed in-house at Jagex, so all the resources, technologies, and most importantly, the ideas and designs for new games will come from within.

This rate of development should keep the FunOrb team's collective nose buried deep in its work. Faulkner again expresses faith in his staff's "cleverness."
============================
This month, Jagex's drive for growth brings the launch of Funorb, a website aimed at "the time pressure gamer" on the view that anyone over 21 lacks the time to commit themselves to RuneScape. It will have 18 simple but highly playable 2D games. All can be played free, but extra levels will cost £2 a month. The hope is that Funorb will bring new people to gaming in the lunch hour, as Jagex tries to replicate Nintendo's success in expanding the gaming demographic. If it does, Jagex will one day be worth a lot of gold.
