How effective is mental health treatment at preventing suicide? Do psychiatric drugs actually prevent suicide?

You might be surprised to find out that more than half of the suicide tracked by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention were already taking medication for mental illnesses at the time they committed suicide.

The CDC has also found that treating suicidality with CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy: A type of talk therapy), resulted in higher survival rates that the medication treatments commonly prescribed by psychiatrists.

Medications like Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Zoloft and other antidepressants such as the SSRI medications are were less effective in treating suicides than talk therapy.

It then would naturally coincide with the fact that people who actually commit suicide are more likely to be taking some form of psychiatric medication. Granted, in this case the treatment failed them; an unfortunate reality.

At this point in time they are nothing more than mere hypotheses. Correlation DOES NOT indicate a causal relationship. You are simply using these statistics as propaganda for your argument against medication therapy. Please do further research before presenting this information in the manner that you are utilizing.

You are assuming I made the statement that antidepressants cause suicide. I never made such a statement. Of course, the FDA has required a black box warning on all antidepressants showing an increased risk of suicidality in children and young adults, but that was the FDA saying it, not me.

Anyone who feels that they have benefitted from SSRI's or other psychiatric drugs, has been brainwashed by the medical system. This is their intent. It's like someone in a cult preaching that it is wonderful and helpful, etc.. I repeat THE ONLY PURPOSE OF THESE MEDS IS DEATH. Eventual Death. Dumbing down of the population. Numbing the mind.

There are zero healing properties and zero treatment properties with these SSRI's. They are chemical toxins that attack the pineal gland (among other glands of the body). Lowering testosterone production, increasing fat production.. the Prozac, Paxil, et al,'s ONLY function is to trigger violence and/or suicide in patients. Psychiatrists are government murderers for the NWO. Higher levels of government want people committing suicide and comitting violent acts in society.

SSRI's are basically household COMET cleaner. Sodium Fluoride, Benzene and Chloride. The meds and treatment are designed to make a person feel weak and powerless (all the while throwing this "empowerment" stuff and "proactive" treatment of your "disorder") psychiatrists want to subliminally encourage people, or rather FORCE people to commit suicide. This is a major part of the New World Order, it all works through deception. The meds essentially kill your "spirit".. help to break the will.

dude i just subscribed to you....and i agree with what you have said in the videos i have seen so far...BUT, and this is a BIG but,,, you better not be a scientologist. i agree about what you think about these drugs, but Scientology is a sad joke.

...I would have to add that I think the solution to the problem is to inform people more to recognize the possible dangers of taking antidepressants.

While I agree that antidepressants can be very dangerous, if not fatal, I would have to argue that sometimes antidepressants can have the opposite effect.

I have personally lived a good life. I have amazing friends and an incredibly supportive family. I also believe through faith given to me by God that Jesus died for me and is my Savior :)...not to start a religous dispute. Unfortunately I became very depressed and suicidal. For me, Zoloft saved my life. I am doing well now! =)

anti depressants do not prevent suicide. this is not what they do. for example, an SSRI, by definition, inhibits the reuptake of serotonin found in the junction between neurons. This is what an SSRI "does." The same goes for the other drugs that are proven to have an effect on a CHEMICAL level of interpretation. These drugs do not, by definition, prevent a human behavior from occurring, such as the act of suicide. Psychiatrists are MDs. You have to be an MD to be one. ive wasted enough time.

No one in all the history of my family or my daughters dads family have ever committed sucide, my daughter was never sucidal and her death was a shock to our whole community. the day before she had gone to "therepy". She was put on lexapro for opitional disorder, basically she didn't get along with adults who "LORD" there authority over children. My family has had mental heath illness but NEVER has there been a SUCIDE! HEllo she was 11!

I was accused of being on meth when I was coming off of effexor! I also had zaps head trauma brain underwater burning and head pound like a hollow hammer sound also I would get tracers. this lasted over a year after quiting effexor,I first had these same problems on paxil. My 11 year old daughter commited sucide by hanging on lexapro july 04! All ssri's are dangerous and numb out and or dystroy nerons and sensors in the brain. And now the pharm. give so much $ to goverment meds never be pulled
