I just had try to sound test for EWI USB and EWI4000s. Because, I started to wonder that these products has make a different sound. I think that those two things a different Breath sensor. I asked that how come to an AKAI support center. But, they took me that the sensor is not different. It's just wondering.

  • Thanks for this post - I found it very useful :)

  • @mje2412 it was my pleasure.(^.^)v

  • I think the 14000s has a slightly "bigger" sound - more spacious; but there's not much in it really.

  • @hubcap43

Yes, you right. And, I think 4000s has more sensitive.

  • They sound the same to me... Are you saying that you think the 4000s has a better sound? I'm trying to decide if I should pay the extra money to buy a 4000s if the USB version would be just as good?

  • @mje2412

Thank you for watching. Yes, it's almost close but, I think 4000s has good response to breath sensor than EWI USB.

  • Just got the ewi usb and my woodwind sounds are pretty lousy. I'm really an acoustic musician, so how should I line up the Aria to get this great sound?

  • They "sound" exactly the same. They don't make any sound. They are electronic and the sound comes from either a tone generator or the internal sounds of the 4000s. 4000s is the way to go if you're gonna gig.

  • @jazzforJamie

The USB requires that you're plugged into your computer or some other MIDI sound module. In this video, they're both used as MIDI controllers, but the 4000s has an internal soundbank of 100 sounds, which is the main benefit in my opinion. The USB also has a smaller range (5 octaves versus 7 in the 4000s I believe)

  • It sounds the same... if AKAI says there's no difference... then there's no difference. Anybody wanting to buy an EWI just buy the USB version.

  • Thanks for post this very useful information. I wanna buy myself a EWI, but I don't know which one is good for me. Thanks.

  • I cant hear any diffrent from instruments. They sound the same in my ears. So what´s the point selekting the more expensive instrument?

    Great test, thank´s

  • thanks for the post! It was interesting to hear a comparison, since i´m thinking about buying myself a ewi 4000s.

To me, i think the 4000s sound more "expressive", it appears to respond more to breath velocity. The USB sounds more "dull" and "plastic". Not as detailed and hi-rez as the previous model.

Domo Arigato for making the soundtest! :)
