I used homemade soap instead of fels naptha. I needed three instead of one bar. It didn't thicken up, but it certainly cleans the grey out of my clothes!

  • hello i hve only watch two of your videos. with the sound on low but i cant wait to be able to turn it up. was wonderring does it matter what kind of soap you use.

? like would it be ok to use ivory or pure n natural.

  • @brshelly123 This recipe calls for Borax, Fels Naptha (or sunlight in Canada) and washing soda. otherwise I don't know how it works.

  • We can't get FEL'S Naptha soap here in Canada - will Sunlight Laundry Bar soap work instead? It has a lemon scent. I rub it on stains and collars as a pre-treat.

  • Yup, that's what I used, as I live in Ontario!

  • Hi, Nancy why do you like homemade better than store bought. I have problems with the store bought and my childrens skin. Is this better on you sensitive skin or not? Please give me all the pro's and con's.

  • yes, but only because of price. My recipe is still all storebought stuff...that big bar of felsnaptha, washing soda and borax. But it's a lot cheaper than buying storebought powdered or liquid soap. It also cleans better, I think. If I use my homemade soap it isn't as good in this recipe.

  • @alibahry So how did it work?

  • Hi Nancy! I've made the homemade laundry gel too. With the homemade soap (another soaper here) I find that a 0% superfat soap is the key to making it work. You can also shred up a bar, add a 1/2 cup of washing soda and a 1/2 cup of borax, and whirl those together in your food processor. Makes a very fine powder that's easy to store, and only takes a couple of tablespoons. :)

  • Some people use Ivory bar soap as well with this laundry soap....not to sure how well it works though....I'm going to see tommorrow....

  • Is the soap what makes it thicken up? Cause mines is watery. It still works but its watery. Can you make a video showing your when its done.
