Here is my composition Double Driving Blues. This uptempo jazz blues is based on two things:
1) The structure of the song is that I mostly (but not always) play choruses in pairs, were the second chorus in each pair is a variation of the first.
2) The walking bass line is kept within a small frequency range. It spans only one octave from the lowest C.
----------
Intro: Walking the bass line down to the bottom.

Chorus 1: Chord rhythm on the lower manual.
Chorus 2: Chord rhythm variation with added percussive keyboard thumps.

Chorus 3: Riff chorus starting with grace notes.
Chorus 4: Same riff with added percussive keyboard thumps.

Chorus 5: Anticipation used for the first note. A few rhythmical riffs are used as building blocks for this chorus. Percussive keyboard thumps are also used.

Chorus 6: Chorus with short phrases, mostly blue notes.
Chorus 7: Chorus with longer, more melodic jazzy lines.

Chorus 8: Riff chorus with emphasis on rhythm.
Chorus 9: Same riff chorus, but with a variation on the dominant.

Chorus 10: One note staccato rhythm throughout the whole chorus.
Chorus 11: Another one note rhythm with riff, and a pedal tone together with a 'machine gun' tremolo during the dominant.

Chorus 12: Palm glissandos upwards and downwards with two-note tremolos and a short rock riff.
Chorus 13: Same but with octaved two-note tremolos.

Ending: After those intense palm glissando/two-note tremolo choruses I calm it down during the ending.

  • Wow! Outstanding. Wish I had back in the 60's/70s when I was giggin'. Hmmm ... Maybe I'll get one anyway. :) Thanks for posting.

  • Hi DukeChiTown

    Thanks!

Go for it! It's never to late jumping into the soul jazz blues organ bag of the 60's, no matter what year it is now. And it's great fun :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Thanks Alex!

    The C1/C2 has no speakers.

You can either use an external amp, external Leslie, PA, hi-fi or studio monitors connected to a PC to get the sound out,

or play the C1/C2 with head-phones.

I do my recordings C1 line out to computer line in.

    The C1/C2 has a bulit-in Leslie simulator.

I would suggest you to go to the Clavia website and download the user manual (PDF format). Then you can read all about specifications and functions of the organ.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • Thank you, rounder2u! :-)

Do I need any amplifier to play on the C1 (or C2) or does the instrument have speakers by itself so that an external amplifier is not necessary? In your description, I read that you did not use any external speakers, but as I often misunderstand things like that, I want to be really sure and ask you. :-D

    I really enjoy your compositions,

    Alex

  • Hi al17co05fa92

    Thanks!

As the Nord C1 is out of production since some time, you can expect them to drop in price. This also means that the second hand price will be going down.

I hope that you will be able get yourself a C1 or C2 as they are, as you say, wonderful instruments.

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • This is so, so, so great! I love your music and your playing! I'm looking for a C1 or C2, too, but as a student, I've got the problem that I don't have enough money for this wonderful instrument. :-D

  • Thanks thrashdevour!

My takes always comes warts & all :-)

    Keep swinging,

    Rounder

  • some rhythmic imprecisions, but you're a great player and composer.
