http://chuckdevore.com/ Listen to this exchange which occurred on June 16, 2009 between Sen. Barbara Boxer and Army Brigadier General Michael Walsh. According to the U.S. Army's own policy, Members of U.S. Senate should be addressed as Sir, Ma'am or Senator. It's obvious that Barbara Boxer has a real issue with the military.
This clip brought to you by Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010 against Barbara Boxer.

It s a bit embarrassing to see her asking to be addressed "senator", but it's equally embarrassing to see others making a big deal out of it and asking for her removal. Those people are just like her.
Hey, look at some of the other comments below and stick to the point. The point is the Brigadier General has to address a Senator as sir or ma'am per Army protocol. Barbara Boxer embarrassed the general in which it is pure disrespect. I have family members that had served in the military and if Senator Boxer said that rant in front of them they would be disrespected. These are our men and women in uniform that deserve the highest of respect to fight for our freedoms.
I don't see what the big hurrah is. All she did was ask him to use a title she prefers. She wasn't rude or derogatory to the Gen Walsh in any way. To say that this exchange translates to Sen. Boxer having a problem with the military is political mudslinging at it's worst. I have zero respect for a political campaign that resorts to these tactics to sway public opinion.
When she said she worked so hard to get that title then it is all fair game. She believes that Ma'am is of lesser meaning or value. The Army states you must address them by that title. She brought it to herself.
There are military protocol guides though, we've found them online. Also, DeVore worked in the Pentagon as a congressional liaison 22 years ago. He knows there are guides: "sir," "ma'am," and "senator" are proper forms of address.
You know you people talk about who should respect whom but look at the way YOU are talking. I am finding it difficult to believe that you even know the definition of the word RESPECT.
