Designing the world's first floating liquefied natural gas facility (FLNG).

Six hundred engineers from around the world have worked on the development phase of the Prelude FLNG Project to define, design and evaluate plans for the facility.

Engineers built a scale model of the FLNG facility and tested it in tanks in artificial marine conditions to see if it would withstand wind and high waves.

  • @Wahnsinner very same cost with LNG plant onshore...

  • Nigeria has one, just a little shorter in length, operating now in the Gulf of Ghana.

  • @ghostdein1 It would have to be close to Somalia for that to be an issue and I doubt it will be moving very often.

  • @atbone99 I think it's safe to say they meant South Korea

  • Ok, anyone have a clue cost ot build, operate and amount of people to run this ship? Just for the kids they'll be sure to make a toy ship, one that lights up with bells and whistles sort of like the Hess Truck kids get for Christmas. Come to think of it Hess will also build one of these so that they can claim having both the truck AND the boat...lol

  • The concept has been around for some time. Great to see that it is coming off the drawing board. Assuming an FLNG vessel can be made available for smaller fields, an FLNG solves the environmental problem of "stranded" gas deposits, does it not?

Can we assume that the present Shell FLNG design will help cope with the technical challenges of extracting hydrocarbons from offshore "condensate" reservoirs in general, not just those on the NW Shelf?

  • how crazy is this? doesn't anyone remember the usss cole? right built in north Korea. they're are friends.lol you all

  • shell is shelling out some money to extract what once might have been shells or something living in a shell. we shell (shall) see if their expenses someday allow us to shell out less shellings (shillings) at the shell gas pumps.
