This 5 minutes documentary follows a doctor in the MSF ward of the human African trypanosomiasis program in Banda (Haut Uélé, DRC). She presents the symptoms of the sleeping sickness and how severe the treatment can be (especially for stage 2 of the disease), here an IV drip which provokes strong side-effects. As the treatment is far from being perfect, a clinical study on the field funded by Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative is ongoing for a combination therapy: NECT (Nifortimox-Eflornithine Combination Therapy) which has several advantages, in particular the length of the treatment is reduced to half with minor risk of resistance development.
