Yeah that might have been a male. I have only seen males do that where they urinate on the ground like that to mark their territory. I know Tsavo has maneless male lions.
At 2:51 when the lioness scratches the dirt with her hind legs she has switched to fight mode. She will not let her kill go without a hyena possibly losing a life. The hyenas seem to sense that.
