From "Orfeu Negro," a Brazilian, French, Portuguese production, from many years ago. The singer here is actually the fabled brilliant Brasilian vocalist, Elizete Cardoso.

  • Beautiful version.

  • Good to hear from you, and thank your for your message. Best regards!

  • Many thanks for posting this haunting melody. First time I

heard it was by Sarah McCorkle-a beautiful recording.

  • Thank you! The haunting aspect you speak of is very apropos; every time I hear it I'm transported! I'm not familiar with Sarah McCorkle's work. Will be looking for her soon. Great to hear from you!

  • I was captivated by the movie and the music from the first time I saw it.....when it was first released. This is a true classic. I have the movie on VHS and DVD, the soundtrack on LP and CD. Thank you for posting this, one of the most beautiful songs ever played in a movie or anywhere.

  • I agree wholeheartedly. This melody, and this particular performance are such a showcase for both the composer, and the singer, Ms. Cardozo! Thanks so much for writing!

  • Varadero1839 Thank you so very much for your compliment! I posted a video response. I recorded my version on the tenor sax. It's truly a soulful song. You're welcome to my channel anytime. :-)

  • Before there was a Halle Berry, there was Marpessa Dawn. So beautiful, even Bill Cosby had to mention her to Theo on the Cosby Show. Breathtaking... May she rest in peace.

  • Best cover ever.

  • Where did all this beautiful singers go? This is real music for the soul ...

  • La versión "definitiva" de esta canción.-

  • nah, it's actually Elizete Cardoso. Astrud does sing this also though in a softer version, also on youtube
