@recordsmanukrnet that's exactly what there isn't and what is so great about Tarkovsky. His films are completely intuitive and in them are no symbols. It's exactly like the imagism: no ideas but in things!

I'd have to say in HD this scene would benefit so much from it

@HerAeolianHarp I agree. This was such a memorable image that everytime I see wind across a field I am reminded of it.

My favorite moment in the movie so far. Mother Nature is as compelling as the fine actors in this film.

This is my favourite Tarkovsky film, I don't know probably because it was the first of his movies I watched. But every scene was absolutely beautiful I remember walking out of the theatre and thinking about the cinematography over and over. And this is one of those scenes I couldn't stop thinking about, did he film until the weather co-operated or was it just him taking advantage of the wind opportunity. Ah I always wonder what happens backstage*!*

@Vesters1 Tarkovsky wanted to use this image but said he needed a reason for the doctor to look over his shoulder. The use of wind is what he went with. Pretty sure he used a helicopter to create the effect, Still its i dont find it important, what matters i think is the final image, which is one of great beauty.

Spooky, like so may others T. scenes. The wind and vegetation are saying: are you sure? We are not there. there is no life where you are heading to. And no return. (watch the film).

Earth, wind and fire.the 3 elements are over the film.
I'm so glad someone put this up. It's one of the most beautiful moments I've ever seen on film.
