That Martin Luther King quote is often taken out of context to argue against affirmative action and other aspects of anti-racism work. The thing to keep in mind is that to judge people by their character is the goal, but it cannot be the process in current society as making ourselves color-blind denies us the ability to see white privelege and how much racism damages both individuals and communities of color.
