Chris Dodd and the MPAA

Tech Babble S3: E012 :

Ok in the league of so absurd we could not make it up, in a political climate where people think all corporations are evil and buying elections Chris Dodd stand up and says he wont give Obama and the democrats money because they did not support SOPA. Two problems with that: one MPAA already gave the Democrats more money for 2012 than they ever did in 2008, two he just made the MPAA which already has PR problems a prime target for every group that feels this way.

Actually, the real copyright mess started with Steamboat Willie. They don't want to let Mickey Mouse go to Public Domain. But SCOTUS just set a bad precedent. They said Congress can go into public domain and re-copyright something. That is actually NOT supposed to be allowed to happen. So now the MPAA no longer needs to lobby more copyright extensions.

They can just let it go into public domain and then immediately re-copyright it.
