  • Technically the title is not correct, this is the end of war in Europe, but not the end of World War II. It took three more months for Japan to surrender.

  • @andres6868 Good point! Title changed --

  • bhugggg, was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell No!!!!!!! Calm down dude, we won.

  • @xexixk Yes, that is what I meant. But I knew this sort of thing would happen, and I'm not interested in getting in a nerdfest with "bhugggg"

  • Remember, Truman had only been President for a few weeks. He knew how to make a political stump speech, but making an address to the nation of this importance was new to him.

  • @bhugggg To be fair I think that when he says "we got involved" he might mean that we supported Britain, supplied arms, etc. rather than actually joining the war.

  • @DoctorFuzzles You get your facts right clown.Germany attacked Great Britain in July 1940.The USA didn't join the war until Dec 1941 after they were attacked by the japs in pearl harbour.

  • To respond to Augustusxiii, and others politicians use auto cues now,, not available to Truman. he became a much better speaker later on.

  • With all due respect to Truman, it sounds like he's learning to read as we listen.

  • Harry S. Truman

  • Give 'em hell Harry!

  • @scampman2 not even close FDR got insanely lucky the Japanese attacked his New Deal would have prob put us into a hole could have left us in the depression another 50 years only the war jobs (manufacturing) pulled us out sorry FDR most overrated.
