In Turkey, those who want to practice their Muslim faith are regarded by the State as the enemy within. Women who wear the headscarf are banned from universities and jobs in the public service like teaching or nursing. "I want to obey the rules of my religion, but I want to live a modern life too. It's my right," says Fatima who, after a decade as a high school teacher, was sacked simply for wearing a headscarf in the classroom.

We(Turkey) dont hate Islam, absolutely NOT! We are 100% Muslim and proud of it! But we have our own ideals. Nobody on this clip says that Islam must be stopped, they only say that Turkey must not turn into Iran! Fucking hell, do people actually want to change into Iran! People say that Turkey is anti-Muslim but forget that WE are the safest, most democratic, richest Muslim country in the world with 99.8% practicin Islam. So where is the oppression?

@ass711 Finally, Turkish culture is very powerful, even today after so many purges. If you ever go to Turkey or even watch films taking place there, you will see that Turkey is a country deeply-rooted in tradition. From evil eyes to sazs, hamams, cuisine,architecture, etc... (eastern Turkey is anything but westernized!)

@ass711 I've been visiting Turkey for the past 7 years and I must say, Turkey has awesome nightlife! Much better than even in the U.S. where I live! Bars, clubs, concerts, all kinds of attractions, even for families. Life would be boring without such attractions, anyways the question that I ask all muslims is this: Why do not men wear hijab? Why only women? If you tell me that men aren't looked on upon with lust, this is not true because there are millions of gays. So, do YOU wear hijab?

@ass711 The founder of akp were former members of several islamic parties (such as Saadet Parti). Any ways, this is behind us now as the tide has turned and the left is growing faster than ever since it is using AKP as a great danger and allowing the people of Turkey to form a national-front against AKP by supporting CHP. Im a sympathizer to the TKP, but even I would vote for the CHP, because of this great threat.

@ass711 Evets such as Davos and the flotilla were pre-planned to act as tools of propaganda to win the support of the Turkish people. Why didnt Erdogan send another Flotilla backed by the Navy? Because it would harm relations with Israel. Why did Erdogan only say "van minut" (1 minute) in Davos after Palestine was bombed? He should have done much more. It is like telling a murderer that what he did was wrong, but not taking any disciplinary measure in punishing him.

@ass711 AKP really has destroyed Turkey, in the way that it has completely undermined the country's future economically. (No ports, no factories, no farms, only 1 bank, are owned by Turkey's government or Turkish individuals). Israel is Turkey's best friend. They have a millitary alliance. Erdogan lashes out at Israel for his own publicity, however in reality, israel is all he has. If he was really against Israel, he would discontinue most relations with it.
