I agree I did not realise the fire power the night fighter had. My father was the observer (navigator /bomb aimer) on that scratch crew Bernard Hart.

Seems very strange to see the man who killed my Mum's cousin, Pilot Officer Bernard Sides, who was flying a 51 Sqn. Whitley Z9311 on a raid to Emden on 21.1.42. Sadly his body was never recovered. RIP Bernard.

I would love to contact any members of Helmut Lent's family. I am making a documentary in which he was involved in the shooting down of a Short Sunderland on 9th April 1940 over Oslo. The other pilot involved, in another Bf110, was Oblt Werner Hansen,

Helmut Lent is a German hero who shot down over 100 enemy planes...mostly during night action. Unfortunately he died in a landing mishap. There is a book called "Lent Papers" about this German hero.
