Layton was also eulogized by his children, Michael, a local city councillor, and Sarah.
"We are proud to have shared our father with you," Michael Layton said.
"He made the most of each moment, as the man who changed the city and this country, and the loving dad I miss so much already."
Sarah Layton reminisced about embarrassing things her father did as she and her brother were growing up, such as whistling as he walked or biked, playing the saxophone badly on Yonge Street when the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series and his fashion sense in the early years.
