Bambury Shed is a model of the original Banbury Shed with a certain artistic licence in the layout and dimensions. It is seen in the Clubrooms of the Wirral and North Wales Model Railway Club at Neston on the Wirral undergoing testing of one of the new fiddle yards. The video of the progress on the layout one month later is also uploaded. The model won "Best in Show" at the Liverpook (UK) exhibition in early May 2008.

  • The layout, on exhibition is set in the late 1960s just before steam was eliminated. The videos show the railway under test, hence the class 20s and the clean standard 5. (The owner will only allow prototypically filthy locos on exhibition).

The scenic trackwork has remained essentially the same despite warping of the boards. After replacing the boards, all the pointwork was replaced with hand made points. The new complete loop fiddle yard is nearing completion at July 2011

  • The end of steam. All the steam locos are filthy, not just weathered. The videos only show the layout under test with a not entirely correct variety of motive power. The model has progressed well beyond the view shown in that it now has a complete loop with a large fiddle yard at the back. This was as a response to exhibitions where it was found to be difficult to keep a wide range of trains running. I have some new videos, again on test which I have yet to upload.

  • The second video showing the Canal end of the layout is titles Bambury Shed Model Railway late April 2008

  • Superb model, wish I had the patience to do something like this. I don't know a great deal about trains but have to ask, Were all engine sheds on the GWR built to the same specification? I used to work in Cardiff and travel to work on the train from Pontyprdd I passed the shed Between Llandaff and Cathays everyday and the shed in your layout was pretty much a carbon copy of that shed right down to the little outbuildings on the side of the track.

  • I am not a GWR expert in the way that the creator of the model is. I have asked him to answer your question and I will post it as soon as I have it.

  • My expert friend (the owner of the layout) says yes they were mostly the same design.
