On 12th November 2009 Barchester Healthcare responded to a government action plan to crackdown on the over-prescription of anti-pstchotic drugs for people with dementia. This was a main news item throughout the day on BBC and also appeared on channel 4 news.
It's not very fair the way this video implies nursing homes are giving poor quality of care and sedating patients. Sometimes dementia patients do need anti-psychotics. I work in a dementia ward and have seen residents quality of life improved with the help of anti-psychotics, in the instance when their dementia has caused a psychosis akin to schizophrenia.
