We are taken back to the 60s with the help of archive film of the time.

Tony Crane of the Merseybeats recalls the Mersey Sound era. We see film of the original Cavern. There is exclusive film of THE BEATLES, never released on video before as well as film of other stars of the time, including The Merseybeats, Cilla Black, The Searchers, Freddie and The Dreamers, Kenny Lynch, The Rolling Stones and Jimmy Saville all of whom recreate a real flavour of the Swinging 60s.

For football fans there are highlights of the 1965 and 1966 Cup Finals at Wembley when Liverpool and Everton won the cup in successive years.

Liverpool was a major departure point for transatlantic passenger liners. We witness the final departure of the Cunard Britannic and the maiden voyage of the Empress of Canada. At Lime Street Station we see the official end of steam.

The city centre changed beyond recognition. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ The King was built within the decade, while work continued on the traditionally designed Anglican Cathedral as it had done for 60 years. Liverpool University Panto weeks are recalled before they finished in the mid 60s. A new landmark, the Tower Restaurant and viewing platform was built 300 feet above the site of the old St. Johns Market. Scotland Road as everyone knew it disappeared forever to become a main highway. At Christmas time Blackler's famous grottos were part of the city scene.

These are just some of the contents of this remarkable video production which will help you relive some aspects of Liverpool life in the past.

  • wow

  • @MannyMUC I agree with you, the disco beat doesn't go with the music and it should be that good hard driving rockin mersey sound.

  • The visuals are great, but this music medley with dumb disco beat is just awful
