This is the BEST version of this song I ever herd!! It was very sad this turned out to be his last performence on telethon.

Sammy did a charity telethon in Perth some years ago. He started singing and wouldn't shut up. The phones went silent. Somebody tapped him on the shoulder and said nobody was ringing so Sammy immediately went to the phone room and the phones ran hot and people said they would donate big amounts if they could get Sammy to talk to them. We loved him.

I was very disheartened to learn that the telethon will be cut to only 6 hours. Even more disturbing was the fact that the press release on the MDA website had no comment from Jerry Lewis. In fact the press release didn't even mention him at all!

"Was that alright Jer?". Sammy was so modest despite being an ultimate superstar. It is a pity some of today's "stars" (whose talent (s) pale in comparison to Sammy's) don't show so much modesty if any at all.

This was Sammy's last singing appearance on Jerry's Telethon but I think his last TV singing appearance was on David Letterman's show singing Vernon Duke's "Can't get Started". I could be wrong. Anyway, there will never be another Sammy:)!

The Letterman show was May or June of 1989. This is September of 1989.
