The figure of 80% Nepali are Hindus are from 1990's census. But as of today only 35%-45% are Hindus as Nepalese are leaving Brahmanical religion (Hindusim). The dalits are becoming Christians, while Gurungs, Sherpas, Thakalis, Tamangs are predominately Buddhist. And certainly Rai, Limbu, Magar, Hayu, Jirel, Dhimal, Sunuwar, Yakkha, Tharu are going back to their ancient faith.
