In the beginning, no one believed in us.
We were bombarded with disapproval and with negative remarks.
No one thought that my gal could be any good; they said she wasn't worth anything. People gossiped that I wouldn't be able to ride her and that she wouldn't handle the jumps very well.
At first, I got sad, thinking that they were actually telling the truth.
My trainer reassured me. He told me to just keep doing what I was doing. He said that, "you two will be great."
My horse and I, we worked very hard at every little aspect. It is not just about the jumping. It's about understanding each other on the flat, knowing what your horse needs to be happy etc. I spent extra time getting to know her; I wanted her to really trust me.
Every word that my trainer told me, I took it to heart and worked twice as hard at it.
As our relationship grew, we started to open people's eyes.
They started saying that our good rides were just "lucky" and that they were just "coincidences". When those same rides started to get very consistent, those same people became quieter and quieter. Slowly they didn't know what to say; they were in shock.
After a while, people started coming up to my trainer, congratulating him on what he had done. All he did was smile, chuckle, and say, "I didn't do too much. I just stand on the ground and give directions. She is the one that actually rides the horse and that same horse is the one that actually jumps those jumps."
Those same people tried to bring us down, erase our success. Let me tell you, at times, unfortunately they succeeded, and succeeded very well. I'm just very glad that both of us came out of them safe and sound.
For a while, we were mentally shattered. I couldn't understand why someone would do such things. It's amazing what people will do when they're jealous, amazing what they will do in order to win.

My trainer comforted me. He told me not to worry.
"We'll fight back; we'll come back even stronger."
And that's exactly what we did. We didn't even have to do anything to pay them back, never did we consider that. We just killed them by our sincerity, by our niceness, by our honesty, by our hard work.

So now comes the point where I have to thank my horse. She has done so much for me, more that I can describe in words. We both have come such a long way. She started in a very nervous manner, didn't trust many people. I didn't have any confidence in myself. I was tense and timid. She has made me a patient, gentle, precise rider and I can't thank her enough for all that she has done for me: all the help I received during my mistakes that she covered up so nicely, all the little cute and funny things she did that just made me laugh so hard, for her listening ears when all my 'vents' were shared with her, and most of all for her humongous heart. Nothing will ever replace her.

In one way, I thank all those people. They have made us so much stronger. We have made a name for ourselves and proved so many people wrong. I can proudly say that we won our state division and we're second in our zone. But that even isn't the important part. I'm a kind person that doesn't like to talk about myself much, doesn't like to talk about accomplishments, I feel that they speak for themselves. Never did I think to say anything back to those people. I just smiled and told them that we would have to wait and see, the future will tell us and guess what? That's exactly what it did.

I wrote this story with a hope to inspire people, to show you all what I have been through.
Don't let other people bring you down. Although it gets very hard at times, you will be glad when you pull through. Nothing comes easy, so don't expect it to. With dedication and hard work, you can slowly move towards your goals. I am so thankful for everything that my trainer has taught me, for all the support I got from him. And like I said, I thank my horse. Nothing would be possible without her. She will always be in my heart.

If you read this whole story, I greatly appreciated it.
