Shots of Capt. Roy Berube flying "The Rose of Sharon," a 1946 Piper PA-12 Super Cruiser. The aircraft was extensively rebuilt by Capt. Don Lovern throughout 2007, and includes modifications such as flaps and PA-18 tail feathers. Note the gusty winds and various flap configurations and takeoff / landing techniques used throughout. Roy had to dodge several vultures on final as well! Location is Richard's Field (04FA) in Miami, FL.

My dad had a Super Cruiser before he married mom and all I ever got to see was the old photos. But I loved his stories about flying above the corn stalks (1949 Wisconsin). I got my Private ticket in 1974 and he was my first passenger.
Thanks for this video.

Thanks for sharing! Nice video... I have been flying a few different tail draggers lately.... J3, Champ, PA 12, PA 18, Pacer PA-20, and a Taylorcraft ...I see a few guys saying its hard to fly a PA-12, which it isnt easy on certain days, but the hardest plane Ive flown in is the Taylorcraft BC12D.. 90 hp and it also outperforms the champ and J3 cub with the same hp HANDS DOWN..... some great flying on this video with the wind! Good experienced pilot! thanks again for sharing

Just had to see this video again. I loved the way you handled the cross winds and the gusts.
I used to fly N7720H that was a 1946 PA12 from Ponca City Oklahoma.
I didn't realize at the time what a great plane it was. I always thought the PA18 was better, but now I look at that wide cabin and think that this may have been Mr. Piper's greatest Cub?

I've seen this video at least 10 times over time as I would dream of what it'd be like to fly such an awesome aircraft. Then last month I bought my first airplane, a 1947 Piper PA-12 with all of the Alaskan mods. you can see my trip from CA back to MN on my youtube.
In Kansas I hit some really strong winds and landing that plane took everything I had, but I'm only 27. You make it look easy ;-)
