@JMS13579 I don't disagree with you. And to add to that, Eisenhower appointed Rockefeller as the 'Special Assistant to the President for Foreign Affairs' (where Rockefeller was able to influence NSC policy) - BIG MISTAKE. It's been said that that decision was as potentially devastating to U.S. security and stability as the creation of the CIA and Federal Reserve. You see how concerned Eisenhower was about the country and direction it was taking in '61. It's all about big money and big power.

@powertothesheeeple Barry Goldwater is much more of a republican than Dwight Eisenhower, Eisenhower was the one who appointed Earl Warren who ruled that the federal government should be involved in schools, Dwight Eisenhower basically endorsed and created NATO himself, and he also continued or increased most of FDR's new deal programs, some even acused him of being a covert communist close with Stalin. he was a man of devotion and great intelligence but he wasn't perfect

A courageous speech. Can you imagine a President today, particularly a Republican President, having the guts to criticize the military-industrial complex?

Virtually all 'Presidents' have been puppets since FDR. The real and neo nazi power, stays in the shadows, threatening and controlling. It pervades all spheres of the US system, from military, security. to law enforcement. Ike was a brave man who risked personal safety to warn the people--world wide .

Does anyone know the name of the BBC Four documentary this clip is taken from?
One of America's greatest heroes and last true Republicans (with the possible exception of Barry Goldwater). A man of brilliance, devotion, and service who loved his country and refused to bow to the big money and power structure that has completely taken over our country. He was like a Biblical prophet (even though he was more from an insider/establishment position) that warned of coming catastrophe UNLESS we remain vigilant. Also, he always reminded me of a grandfather that I never had.

...back when the GOP had proper, pragmatic conservatives. It's since been hijacked by the "Christian Right" (which is neither Christian, nor right), laissez faire capitalists, and radical regressive right-wingers. All special interests, all not very good for the nation.
