December 29, 2009. KANAKAPILA and friends at Emerald Tavern in Hilo.
KANAKAPILA KEEPING THE ROOTS
Where: Emerald Orchid in downtown Hilo
When: 6-9 p.m. every Tuesday night.
Details: Three respected and well known local bruddahs, Ben Kaili, Victor Chock, Ukulele, and JJ Ahuna. These three musicians gravitate toward Traditional Hawaiian music and present it for perpetuation of the Hawaiian culture. Often sung in the Hawaiian language and many taken from old songs (mele) and chants, Traditional Hawaiian music is no doubt a major root to the Hawaiian culture and these bruddahs want to share with anyone who might welcome it, enjoy it, learn from it and respect it.
