I was listening to 89.9 Jazz & More on my way home today from work and I heard Art Tatum for the first time and was blown away. I heard a similar style of play about a year ago by Oscar Peterson, but Tatum's technique is brilliant.

@EquinoxParadox91 Well, Les Paul was as influential for jazz guitar as Tatum was to jazz piano.

@EquinoxParadox91 A lot of Pianists gave up because of Tatum, but at the same time many others were inspired, like Oscar Peterson, after he got over the shock of his first Tatum experience.

I hate the fact that Les Paul decided to give up piano because of hearing and seeing someone with far superior playing technique. Whatever happened to just enjoying music?
