Please excuse my lack of clarity and sounding a bit all over the place, I made this video in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep

  • Hey great video. And I can hear a slight difference in your voice. Awesome!!

  • thanks :)

  • Another thing - I'm glad you bring up the issue of class. People often take the sole position that class effects trans men's access to embodying a binary gender identity (medically transitioning), which is true. However, class status also influences the ability for one to live safely and publicly as androgynous/genderqueer.

  • and yes, thank you for the point about the connection of class and safety for genderqueer folks. while i try to be an advocate and ally for genderqueer folks, my own perspective and ignorance inevitably gets in the way of being consistent with those efforts.

  • Hey T.J. :) Great video. I think somewhere in the middle (around 3.5-4ish minutes) what you're getting at is entitlement. I think a part of male socialization is internalizing a sense of entitlement. It is my impression that trans men, and really all people sexed female at birth, do not have the same sense of entitlement in regards to gender. hmm... Not sure if I articulated that well enough.

  • hi Reese.... that's exactly what i was getting at. thank you for articulating that further. my articulation definitely suffers when i'm just talking to myself at 3am... ;-)

  • are considerably shorter than men on average, white men in particular. We know that men, masculinity and race have their own privileges attached to them, but so does height and the associations we make with them. I think it's interesting to see how some trans men after transition and are shorter now are viewed as inferior on another level. Whereas previously they may have been sexualized for their height, they are now stripped of this and viewed as inferior to taller men.

  • great video. i really liked your point about race and how this is another less heard of issue in trans spaces are assumed for the most part to have white privilege. I've been to a few trans conferences that have made trans men and women of color spaces to provide an outlet for discussion, but it still needs voicing.

Anyways, I also did want to bring up another element that I've noticed with my own transition and other trans men is that of heightism. For the most part men who transition...

  • Hey man, you voice his getting deeper! sweetness man!
