I have some questions about Dobermans. Should you get them as pups or is it ok to adopt them i just want mine as a guard dog but i want him to also be a calm loving dog as well i dont want a super aggressive dog just a protective playful one. Please answer with what ever you can thank you!

My Doberman could't catch either.

God dobermans are gooorgeous, they're so beautiful, strong and agile. I've always wanted one... Too bad my boyfriend wants a pug -_-

@hotfuzz1995 They are unbelievably easy to train because they are so smart and if raised with a loving family that is willing to give them the time and attention they deserve, you will never find a more loving or loyal family companion. Get your pup from a good breeder where you can meet the parents. If the parents of the puppy have the disposition you are looking for AND you do your part, you've got a great friend.

@DhabyaniVIP Course not! But you have to nip the bad behavior in the bud when they're young as these dogs are powerful. My bf allowed my dog as a puppy to jump all over him and he reinforced that with laughter and general playfulness, well, that doesn't fly with me -- so he learned to be a gentleman around me, but to treat my bf like a chew toy. I told him, it's your fault. Shouldn't have done that. Now he's working with him to stop... haha, hate to say I told you so!

@tutman2006 A female is next on my list. I read they were more aloof with the 'i'm too cool for you' attitude lol. My boy is soooooooooooooo cuddly and snuggly, my god. Sometimes I wake up in he morning with him totally conked out, a paw draped over me and his head buried in my neck, snoring and sometimes drooling. Yuck! He is definitely the biggest cuddlebug I've ever seen in a dog!

:0) Well the female dobies are about 85lbs full grown. the males can be 100lbs.
so just get a female dobie. They are very active so make sure they can get plenty of excersize.

Well I have had Ruby the doberman for 3 years now and she hasn't learned any aggressiveness towards toys from playing with here like this.
I can put my hands in her food dish and take bones and toys away with no resistance. I'm the master and she knows when to back off.
as long as that is established you will be okay.
I have years of experince in training dogs so I'm good. for the newbee who doesn't have experience with dogs, I would then agree with you.

`Dude I just wanna ask you a lil question please! First of all, GREAT DOBERMAN! BEAUTIFUL! :)
Now the question, do they bite when playing? and does it hurt? :P
My question may sound stupid but my german shepherd puppy bites while playing and it freakin hurts!

Its simple logic. Positive rewards for good behavior, and negative response for unwanted behavior. Never hit your dog with your hand. Use a newspaper or magazine for discipline. That way the dog won’t be afraid of your hand, just the noise/whap of a harmless roll of paper.
