Agitating SAR dog

It never hurts to motivate your dog. We back-tied Cooper while a subject runs away in plain sight. Cooper has to watch, knowing he can go find that person and get his toys. Sure enough, when we released Cooper a few minutes later, after the subject has a chance to hide out of sight - Cooper found him and when he "indicated" - he jumped on his Handler as well as barking! He was demanding with his indication - which is great. After a 4 to 6-hour problem, a dog needs to still give a strong indication, and little games like runaways motivate the dog and keep it excited and wanting to work.

what happens if the subjects contfront cooper with a bat? will he still hold his ground and bite? if he doesnt hes worthless

@cateyes221981 We train SAR (search & rescue) dogs. While some aspects are similar to Shutzhund, with regards to "drive", we do NOT train our dogs to bite.

There would be some serious conflict for SAR dogs to find lost people, and then bite them. ;-)

I have been watching your videos. What an awesome dog you have. My Shepherd is 6 and a half. She is a good girl as a family dog and is well behaved at it. That is what she is good at. I can leave her alone with my daughters AND their friends when they are over. That is what she is good at.
