Blowback is a true concept, but one has to ask whether fighting the spread of the USSR was wrong. Let's not forget the cuban missle crisis. The end scene shows distasteful abuse of the free speech you love. You can make a point without forcing anyone willing to listen to you to listen to filth as you make it.
