Robespierre made a lot of sense. Always. Little did he know that people don't care about his idealist beliefs

Grey hair seems to be the fashionable colour for women in this film.
Des cheveux gris est le colour favori pour les femmes en cette film, je crois.

on sent bien dans l'echange Danton-Marat le jeu trouble que joue Danton, qui espere toujours finalement sauver la monarchie...

@Hugues011 I do not intend to destroy the film, it was just a comment about a historical detail. It is a really interesting film with lots of good actors and actresses and a very nice set, especially in the taking of the Bastille and the Place Louis XV - Place la Révolution. By the way, it the French royals were kept in the Tour du Temple, why do they get to the place coming from the rue Royale? Well, it is more espectacular that way. And yes, I do love Paris!

@PEPEDEBARRO That may be true but we can not destroy a film for big ben

@PEPEDEBARRO very good observation :)
Are we sure Big Ben are the only bells in London ro produce that specific sound?

@selecto16 The Big Ben tune is a special version the the chimes of St. Mary's church, Cambridge. They say they follow the words of Psalm 37:
All through this hour
Lord be my guide
And by Thy power
No foot shall slide
Definitely, those chimes were not in use in London in the times of the French Revolution. Anyway, the movie is great and I have enjoyed it a lot. Quite funny Christopher Lee is the hangman...

@PEPEDEBARRO Thanks a lot for the details. I will investigate further to know whether that was a mistake, because great historians (like Jean Tulard) helped Mnouchkine and Clermot-Tonnerre do the movie.

the monarchy needed time to unite with the people. but murderers like marat and Danton destroyed everything

The monarchy never cared about the people, that's a fact. Otherwise, why would they be the only ones paying taxes, for over centuries?
Not the nobility nor the clergy paid taxes, on which was a whole economy based, but the working class.
