Take Action today! Visit http://ht.ly/1TB60 to learn how you can help bring greater physical education opportunities to North Carolina's children.

Betsy Vetter, North Carolina Director of Government Directions for the American Heart Association, explains why evidence-based fitness testing is essential to combat childhood obesity, inspire youth to be physically active, and develop a heart healthy lifestyle.

In May 2010, the North Carolina Legislative Joint Task Force on Childhood Obesity released a report containing several recommendations to combat childhood obesity, including a mandate for evidence-based fitness testing in NC's K-8 schools.

Viewers are encouraged to express their support for H 1757/S1296 "Physical Education and Activity in Schools," proposed legislation which would provide access to evidence-based fitness testing -- an essential component in the fight against childhood obesity -- to every K-8 student in North Carolina's public schools.

NCAAHPERD's In-School Prevention of Obesity and Disease (IsPOD) Program includes evidence-based fitness testing at no cost to taxpayers. Already implemented in 65 school systems and scheduled to launch statewide, the IsPOD Program has led to the largest data collection of student physical fitness levels, behaviors, trends, and other info.

Fitness testing and other components of the IsPOD Program are made possible by generous donations from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation.
