Are atheists, specifically the new atheists, really freethinkers? You be the judge.

  • 1. "Freethinker" is a historical term referring to the fact that deviation from local religious beliefs was rigorously punished. In many places on earth, it still is.

    2. Criticising another's beliefs is not the same as imposing your own beliefs. Atheists criticise converts because they care about what is true.

  • Atheism is simply not believing in a version of a god. . .That other stuff is false attributes you have attached to atheist so that you can make fake arguments. . . Its called a strawman. . .Very slimy. .

  • @greenelf12 "while an atheist main tool is "logic and reason""

So your epistemology of logic and reason is that if you hold a position of certainty: There is no ultimate purpose in the universe.

It does not automatically follow that it is logical. Mere using limited cognition does not equate truth

  • @SignsOfMyRule1 I don't think you caught what I was saying I was't sugesting in the slightest that christains don't have logic, wat I was hinting towards was their wepon of choice. generally the christains main tool to convet is jesus, while an atheist main tool is "logic and reason".

  • @Neosaigo "I do not know who" you're not applying knowledge when saying that you are agnostic about something. Logic is a property of knowledge not the property of the ABSENCE of it. SIMILARLY an application of logic is based on using cognition to recognize that design is the best explanation for the very incomprehensibly narrow balance parameters of the universe. A design requires a Designer as to pottery and jars requires intelligence.

  • @greenelf12 Your logic does not follow eg it does not follow logic and reason CANNOT BE followed by Christians. There's nothing in logic and reason that restricts theism just because it doesn't follow atheism. I suppose you're equating atheism as to biased extent

  • "If there appeared to be a conflict between philosophy and faith, it was certain reason had erred". Theists are non thinkers, you read one book and close you mind to the possibility that the book is false. As an atheist I concede that the bible may be true, BUT after considering a few things it becomes so improbable its is laughable. As an atheist I Am a free thinker, evolution may be wrong, but faith alone will not convince me.

  • Kurt Wise "...if all the evidence in the universe turns against creationism, I would be the first to admit it, but I would still be a creationist because that is what the Word of God seems to indicate." Theists are silly :P

  • Wow, nine friggin minutes and not one piece of hard evidence for god. But, why expect that? There never is.
