Las Vegas, NV: November 2010: Gentlemen, start your green "E-ROD" engines.
California, the world capital of car culture and the state that gave America the microchip, the Frisbee, and surf boards will now bring fuel efficient hot rods to roads from coast to coast with GM's new E-ROD engine portfolio, which complies with rigorous environmental standards.
At the 2010 SEMA Convention this week, GM Performance Parts (GMPP) announced that an Executive Order has been issued by the State of California which makes any pre-1996 vehicle using an E-Rod engine compliant with stricter state emission standards.
With greater fuel efficiency and low emissions, GM Performance Parts E-ROD LS3 crate engine system already meets California Air Resources Board (CARB) aftermarket requirements enabling auto enthusiasts to modify existing vehicles to comply with new regulations taking effect in California and eventually in 17 other states.
No other original equipment manufacturer or aftermarket manufacturer offers a comparable system. The E-ROD crate engine system is based on the 430 horsepower LS3 engine. Introduced by GMPP at SEMA this week were three additional products in their E-Rod Engine line.
Three New E-ROD Packages for 2011
For 2011, GMPP is introducing three new E-ROD packages: E-ROD 5.3L, E-ROD LS7 and E-ROD LSA. The 5.3L and LSA are available now, with the LS7 package coming after the first quarter of 2011. Like the original E-ROD LS3, all are offered for manual transmission or automatic transmission applications. It is expected that CARB aftermarket EOs will be forthcoming on the new engine systems in early 2011 for use in pre-1996 vehicles.
Experts and Enthusiasts See GM Performance Parts Coming to the Rescue
Professional builders attending SEMA showed off their hot rods and talked about the importance of the E-ROD platform and gave the product rave reviews.
Every weekend across the USA, auto enthusiasts celebrate their passion, rolling out their vehicles of pride and joy to different clubs and events - or sometimes they simply take a relaxing ride. Without the E-ROD platform these weekend warriors could have their passion endangered.
E-ROD Portfolio Beyond GM Vehicles
Not only will the E-ROD portfolio of engines allow for enthusiasts to build CARB-compliant vehicles, it is opening up a pathway of dialog with new vehicle customers who would never even consider owning a GM vehicle. Several import car (Nissan Z and Mazda RX7) owners are building E-ROD vehicles. Few of them have ever stepped foot into a Chevrolet dealership, but they are sampling GM Powertrain and becoming aware of our product thanks to E-ROD.
Bader TV camera crews were on hand in Las Vegas and have more..
Basically i'd like to know if I could put an e-rod ls7 engine in my 1986 caprice, or do I have to get an e-rod ls3 or e-rod 5.3 to be compliant with my California emissions laws?
