I adopted Buddy the 16 year-old Alexandrine on Memorial Weekend 2009. He is a sweet bird, but cage bound. I am at least his third home in sixteen years and plan to be his last. Buddy does not like to be touched, however will very gently take food and water from my hand. He is fully-flighted and to my knowledge has never been trimmed. It will take lots of work, though I can already see a change in him this weekend as he gets more comfortable. I will work with him in his time and work to gain his trust.
So tell me what is the best option, to buy one hand tame or adpot an alexandrine parrot and how is there behaviour when you adopt one from a rescue is this safe to do or you need to be patient when u do adpot a bird and try to approach them safely where they don't feel threaten.

I really recognise this behaviour from an Alexandrine who doesn't feel safe around you yet. My first one left droppings whenever you approached him the first few days. Even as he grew older he would pretty much be safe only around me. Try bribing him with a mandarine orange, they can hardly resist such fruits! ~C
