what great fiddle playing and song if you did not no sadly kenny baker (fiddle player) a bluegrass legend sadly had a bad stroke wich led him to pass away this passed friday july 8th 2011
One of my favorite songs by Mr. Monroe. Use to see him in McAlester, Ok. at the Sander's Festival. Playing mandolin when I was a little girl, with my family band, my Dad would say, " Now try to play it like Bill Monroe." Easier said, than done. Lol!
I can still hear him saying, before starting this tune, when someone would request it, "...she bloomed for me...she bloomed for me..."! This brings back such fond memories of him with this group comprised of the greatest fiddler in Bluegrass, Kenny Baker; Blake Williams; Wayne Lewis and Mark Hembree!! We were there for this show and it was such fun! Thanks for such a great posting!!
Near the end of the eveing at Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Festival at Beanblossom (Indiana), Bill & the Bluegrass Boys would make their way to the stage by walking down the hill (through the crowd) for the final performance of the night. You could always see them coming because the crowd would holler out "the white hats" are coming (in reference to their white hats) !!
Bill says "Sweet little Barbara Mandrell worked with me on this one". In 1983, Bill released an album called 'Bill Monroe & Friends'. Barbara Mandrell and Bill sung this number together on that album. Hope this helps.
Can anyone explain the meaning of Monroe's statement about Barbara Mandrell? I would have though that Bill wrote that song long before Ms. Mandrell was born? Yes?
