Back in Central days the 20 Century Limited did every bit of 100 MPH.
-
i used to pace the "TV" trains between Butler and Edgerton back in the Conrail days. 75 mph was par for the course. sixty trains a day was common too. quite a few of those are now running CSX.

Gareth,
Wow... he was definitely kicking right along! Those GEs can really move a train along. That was a great K5LA on the lead unit. Must have been quite a feeling to be standing that close to something that massive moving at that speed! Great video!

@ble909 I live on the BNSF racetrack and I've seen stuff pushing 80. really is something amazing

thats crazy!! at 0:47.. there is a trailer with 2 red stripes.. thats one of the trailers i pull!!! lol
-
Part of the reason for the slow speed is that the higher speeds don't justify the fuel consumption for the small amount of time shaved off the runs.

he was haulin ass!
yeah hes doing every bit of 60 through there. you wont see anything doing 70 out east anymore, and i couldnt answer as to why that is if you asked me. BNSF and UP still haul ass out west.
