Instructional Video released in 1990 by Interworld Music. Glen Velez with Layne Redmond. Glen is playing a mazhar. Layne has footage of Egyptian mahzar players that is waiting to get edited! It will break this playing down a bit. Some wonderful women are forming a non-profit to help her archive her slides and video footage of frame drumming from around the world. It could use everyone's support! If you want to make sure you know about this archive and have access to it, please join her mailing list: http://bit.ly/yjQ8Ul

  • I want a frame drum right now.

  • Both of these great percussionists must spend much of their time teaching basic techniques to beginning drummers. How cool it must be for them to get together like this once in a while with another superstar performer and be able to really show their chops and jam together on a higher level.

  • With my 18" bodhran I had the intention of learning the irish but am hooked on the sound of the frame drum now....What a brilliant display from these two talented musicians..unforgettable.

  • coooooooooooool

  • At the time this video was made, Layne Redmond was probably still Glen Velez's student. She studied under him for a while, then went her own way. For more information you can read her book: "When The Drummers Were Women". A fascinating read & well researched.
